People, light, and the moments between.
Quiet, in-between moments, made slowly.
About
Matt Hardy
I make photographs to pay attention: to people first, and to the beauty and meaning that appear when I slow down enough to see them.
Mindfulness is the lens. My camera goes everywhere with me, and I still shoot as though I were shooting film, deliberately, waiting for the moment instead of spraying frames at it. It's why my work gravitates to the quiet in-between: a rodeo clown alone on the rail, riders catching their breath before a race, a stranger's laugh at the edge of the frame.
Darkwater FieldCraft is where that work lives, built around fine art and street photography, with motorsport as a second thread: the same human moments, at speed.
Away from the camera I guide fly fishing trips as Royal 7 Guide Co., from Montana to the Bahamas. Reading water and reading a scene turn out to be the same skill: watch longer than feels necessary, then be ready. I'm based in Florida, and I keep learning alongside the photographers of FMoPA's Click club.

Reading water, on the water.
Fly fishing guide service across the waters at right. The patience that makes a photograph is the same patience that finds a fish: watch the water, slow down, and pay attention to what it shows you.
